Lucky 10,000 A podcast for anyone who ever geeks out about anything.

We don't do it often, but to kick off the new year we wanted to just kind of talk to each other about 'stuff'.  Carissa announces her resolution and waxes poetic about the touching effect of Bob Ross on Twitch chatters, while Evan reflects on Red Dead Redemption and the things we love despite all contrary public opinion.  Hollywood gets a nice reaming for its neoconservative values and alien view of the real world.  Just for the hell of it, we talk limericks and anti-limericks, and would like to invite our beloved listeners to send us their favorite dirty limericks.

2015 is coming to a close and so, as we approach the beginning of the year when those born at the turn of the millennium will be driving cars, Evan and Carissa take a look back - as many others are doing - at the halfway point of the Twenty-Teens.

The best (and a couple of the worst) in science, tech, medicine, movies, tv, and games of the year all get a nod.  Then we take a look forward to hope for the best to come in the approaching year.  We know everyone is doing a year-in-review, but naturally we think ours is the best.

Have a safe and happy New Year's Eve celebration, everyone, and we'll catch you in a week!

Christmas is nigh, and our hosts take this opportunity to reach into the stocking and pull out all the random goodies they can find. We talk SPOILER-FREE about The Force Awakens, wax cautiously optimistic about the Warcraft movie, rant about the (not-so) casual racism in the prequels, contemplate fun things to do with Harry Potter's wang - er, wand - and have some general silliness with Star Wars Mad Libs.

Big shouts out to the gents at the Wikishuffle podcast and to the nerdcore group 2d6.

We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

Tomorrow, as we all know, Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens hits general release. We were remiss in raging about the second two prequels, so we get that out of the way because we are people of our word.

Then Trivia! How much does Evan remember about the minutiae of the Star Wars movies? Carissa quizzes him to find out. Play along at home, test your own memory, and see if you get to feel smug about how much Star Wars trivia you know. With many huge thanks to the Geeks Who Drink for their inspiration from the Let The Wookie Win national pub quiz last Saturday.

Send us your quiz scores so everyone can be suitably impressed, or so others can maybe not feel so bad. :P

This week Evan and Carissa reminisce about the technology which shaped our generation. The 8088 and the Apple ][e, BASICA games and TI graphing calculators, the Hayes SmartModem and AOL, BBSes and MUDs, Betamax and VHS, and so much more. Progress marches on, moving ever faster and with increasing promise, so we pause to relish in the view from the top, standing on the shoulders of the giants which brought us into the future.

For our 20th episode, we invite a special guest to help us hash out an age old question: If Star Wars and Star Trek met in an epic battle, who would win? The answer may surprise you. The answer may enrage you. No matter how it turns out, we think this is one of the better conversations on an oft-debated nerd standard.  Let us know what YOU think!

Thanks to long-time listener and friend of the show, Winston, for joining us on this one.

This week we take on the worst of us: the trolls, haters, and insufferable fanboys who make life both on and off the internet more taxing and troublesome than it needs to be.  We basically cover everyone from racist YouTube commenters to hardcore MMO raiders, forum trolls to PC/Console MasterRace believers, and pseudo-anonymous assholes to socially awkward sexists.

It's a little less RAGE-y than our previous few, but probably more important, as this one actually has a lesson to wrap it all up.

Congratulations again to wikishuffle for their win at the UK Podcasters Awards!

How's that for an episode title?

After three months, it is finally here: our long-awaited talk on the first of the Star Wars prequels.  Talked seemingly to death by nerds and film critics for 16 years now, we take a new stick to this horse and cover both the bad and the good that can be found in The Phantom Menace. And yes, Carissa argues, there is good to be found.

We play devil's advocate for haters, believers, and apologists alike.  Irrespective of how you feel about the prequels, there is almost sure to be something you hadn't thought of in our comprehensive geek-out over the first of the three least-beloved entries into the Star Wars oeuvre.

If you thought Evan had said all there was to say about zombies in Episodes Four and Eight, you are going to be surprised at this one.  This time, he gets more in depth about the absolute must-have zombie horror flicks for aficianados and new collectors alike.  We hear about the top ten on his list as well as some favorable honorable mentions.

Minor spoilers ahead for some of the best zombie movies ever put on film.

Also, as Carissa mentions later in the episode, visit ZombieHunters.org for all your zombpacolypse needs.

It may be a tad late in the game for a disclaimer, so this episode is more like a confession.  Evan and Carissa go through the top five things which lose each of them 'nerd cred'.  From the not-so-bad to the hate-inducing, we run the gamut of why some well-meaning but wrong-headed folk might dare say we aren't geeks/nerds.

For anyone who's ever been excluded, mocked, or flamed for the stuff they DIDN'T see, hear, like, do, or understand, this one's for you.

All hate (or agreement) can be directed to us through LuckyTenThousand [at] gmail [dot] com, or on Twitter: @Lucky_10k.
